When you get a price to build your new website, do you really know what you are getting?
Will there be hidden costs and extra charges?
And how can you tell?
Here’s a case in point.
I had a detailed conversation with Robert, (let’s call him Robert but that is not his name), about what he wanted to do with his website.
He had already had 2 attempts with different web designers and still wasn’t happy with the result.
So he was ultra-cautious about spending more money – and fair enough.
As I looked at the site, I couldn’t blame him.
It was lacklustre, unappealing and had no “Call-To-Action”, (Sorry Robert!).
We talked about:
- revitalising the site with a fresh new design,
- adding powerful Call To Action features,
- setting up automated social media posts
- building an online subscriber database
- custom coding to link in his sales CRM
- edit and change the existing 20 webpages
- add new pages
- and many other features . . .
The Second Quote!
Robert also had another quote which had come in at about half of our price, and he could not understand why . . .
. . . until eventually he told me what was in that quote.
It might have been a fair price for what was included, but it would not get Robert much further along the path than he already was.
To summarise, he was going to get a different theme installed and setup of the Home page, and very little more.
It blatantly did not include any changes to pages other than the Home page even though he wanted these changed.
And there was to be none of the integration and automation that we had talked about doing.
That was it !!
Robert agreed that this guy was probably going to come back and “tickle” him for more money on various aspects of the quote.
And because it was an hourly rate quote, and not a fixed price quote, it could end up costing almost any amount !
So if Robert decides to go with this seemingly “cheap quote” – which it seems that he might – he will probably end up paying close to what we quoted to start with, and maybe a lot more.
And he still won’t have a fresh new design and he definitely won’t have an automated Online Business tool.
So what should you do now?
Learn from Robert’s experiences.
1.
If you are looking at website quotes . . .
. . . look very closely at what you are actually getting.
Is it an all inclusive and fixed price?
Will there be more to pay?
2.
