My friend cannot see my website in Google but I can. Why is that?
DID YOU KNOW . . .
that just because you get good rankings on one computer, does not necessarily mean that you will get good rankings on another computer.
Google leaves “Cookies” on your computer.
Basically – cookies are little bits of information about you and your preferences and choices, and also about where you have been online.
In fact, I just read somewhere that Google leaves more Cookies – “than a drunk Santa on Christmas Eve!” LOL
So, Google tracks what you do online and then tailors it’s search results according to what it has learned about you.
Here’s a simplistic example . . .
. . . and let’s agree that very few people know exactly how Google works!
Let’s say that you are very interested in Sports, and do a lot of internet surfing on the subject.
But your friend is more interested in Travel, and searches for destinations and how to get there.
When you type in a new Google search, Google is going to bias your results more towards Sports.
If your friend types in the same keywords, the results will be more biased towards Travel.
You may get some similar results where a Sport and Destination coincide, but you will also get different search results as well . . . for the exact same keywords.
Logout
One way to minimise the impact on your Search Results is to logout of all of your Google related accounts, such as gmail, before testing SEO by doing Google Searches.
It’s also important to know, that you can be presented with false or misleading SEO results by indiscriminate SEO practitioners using this information.
Other factors affect searching too.
For example – Location.
Google knows, (or assumes), that if you type in Coffee Shop or Hairdresser, then you are probably looking for someone local or close to you.
So depending on where you are, Google delivers up different results.
You see now how difficult it can be to gauge the success or failure of your SEO campaign by typing keywords in Google.
