Focus on what is working
I just finished a session with a client who did not Focus on what is working
She’d had a few setbacks in her business and was not dealing with them effectively.
Well, that’s a part of being in business, isn’t it – setbacks?
We all get setbacks from time to time. Things don’t quite go as expected, or are totally unexpected.
This client had received a few “Nos” and had a couple of reversals.
She focused so much attention on these events that she started to think that “Nothing is working in my life”.
We’ve all been there at some time or other, and probably more than once.
It’s like . . .
It’s like having 3 radios going in the one room at the same moderate volume.
Then you turn one radio up to maximum volume. Very soon you cannot pick the tunes playing on the other 2 radios, and even forget what was playing there altogether!
If you don’t like what’s playing on the loud radio, (or it is not supporting you to get the best results), then you have to turn up the other radios, (and turn down the negative radio).
For my client focusing on the few things that were not working, they become more significant than they really were.
By focusing on just those few things, all of the positive results were forced out of her mind . . . almost as if they no longer existed.
But in reality, the positive things do still exist. There are many good things happening in this client’s life.
And consciously bringing those things back into mind, forced those negative things back into perspective. Back into the correct proportions that they should take in her life.
When things don’t quite go right, you can take that as an opportunity to review and do things differently.
If something is not working for you or for your business, then it makes sense to take stock of the situation, and see if there is a better or different way to do things.
It can be helpful to bring in some outside help, because often when we are in the forest, we cannot see the wood for the trees.
So if you are feeling a bit down, or feel that nothing is working out for you, talk to a friend to get some outside perspective.
Someone who will say “cheer up buddy, life is not so bad . . . what about these good things in your life?”
Or if you want to DIY do it yourself . . . then go for a long brisk walk and keep naming things that you can be grateful for in your life.
Everyone has 100’s and 1,000’s of things to be grateful in their life, whether they believe it or not. It’s just a matter of focusing on them!
Well, that is quite simple really!
