Are you dealing Cards on the table or really networking?
Someone told me that this actually happened . . .

Someone walked into a networking event and said
“I will have to leave shortly but here is my card”.
That person proceeded to hand out his business card to everyone present and then left.
We dubbed this guy “the poker player” because he was good at dealing cards!
They say that any publicity is good publicity.
And I suppose that any time that you get your business card or flyer into the hands of a another person can be a good thing.
But business networking is about networking. Not just distributing advertising material.
You can pay a school kid to distribute advertising material if that’s all you are doing.
You might get a transaction from one of those people, but have you built a reliable contact who will refer you other new business?
Will they even remember you, (in a good way), after that meeting is over?
Chances are, NO and NO!
So if networking is about getting referrals, then it is also about building relationships with people who are willing to refer business to you.
Most people like to refer someone who they know reasonably well and can trust.
And that usually only happens with the passage of time or some amazing act of good will.
So please treat your networking seriously. Make it a regular event; a habit in your business.
Well, that is quite simple really!
