Blind Harry can see where this is all leading.
On my computer, when you go to save a new document, the default setting is . . .
iCloud. Not my hard drive, but iCloud.
It’s pretty clear from this that in the very near future, you will store all your information “in the Cloud” by default.
You won’t even think about storing files on your own hard drive or on a device that you carry around.
In fact, your computer may not even have a hard drive or a mass storage drive of any kind.
As a quick digression, hard drives are already on the way out now. They are being replaced by flash storage – essentially memory chips.
Flash storage drives are much quicker and more reliable than the old hard drives we have used for decades.
It is literally like comparing an old vinyl record player, (if you remember what this is), to an iPod.
So, moving on . . .
The key is to be prepared for the changes as they come.
Look for what new opportunities exist moving forward.
And be aware of what deals and offers to avoid as the technology changes.
But also, look for niche opportunities that might exist as the old technology goes out of fashion.
e.g. there is still a very small, but thriving, market in vinyl LP records and related equipment.
Well, that is quite simple really!
