Is your 1300 number . . .
. . . alienating your clients?
I had an interesting conversation this week with our new telecom client in Brisbane.
Years ago, the 1800 number was a great breakthrough that gave clients and prospective clients free-call access to your business.
Either the cost burden of 1800 numbers became too much for businesses, or the Telco’s worked out a way to make more money . . . but we were lumbered with 1300 numbers.
This was all great when we made all of our phone calls from landlines.
But let’s face it . . .
Who uses landlines anymore?
On 28 April 2008, the ACMA announced that the number of mobile phones exceeds Australia’s population.
We are all using mobile phones!
And when you call an 1800 or 1300 number from most mobile phones, it is not a free or fixed rate call charge.
You the business owner end up paying more to receive the call from a mobile, and the caller is still paying mobile rates as well.
And if your website shows only an 1800 or 1300 number, then you may be pissing off, (alienating), your clients or potential clients!
So, how could that be made easier and less annoying for your customers . . .
It’s very simple . . .
Publish your landline number
on your website
and give your customers a choice.
Landline calls are usually included in mobile plans, so there is no extra cost to the caller, and no cost to you the business owner!
Wouldn’t that be much better for everyone, (except the Telco’s of course!)
However, there is another chapter to this story . . .
The internet now gives us many more options with free services like skype, (which has some limitations), and VOIP Voice Over Internet Protocol phone services.
Now we can add a FREE CALL button to your website!
Your customers and prospective customers can call you from almost anywhere in the world at no cost to them, (just like the old 1800 numbers).
And it only costs you a fixed rate charge of approximately 70c per call.

And that’s what we all want, isn’t it!
So what should you do now?
Check the contact details on your website. Make sure that you include a landline number.
